My name is Mark and I am the 6th great grandson of Hugh Kirkpatrick II. I was originally born in Florida and like most Kirkpatrick’s of this line, I was raised in Ohio. I now reside in Southern Indiana where I am happily married with one son. I have worked in the Emergency Medical Services since 2010. This is how I have chosen to serve my community.
I owe many thanks to my late Uncle, Ronald Kirkpatrick (1935-2014) of Seminole, Florida for sparking my interest in our family history when he mailed my mother a copy of his book, “Hugh Kirkpatrick I 1697-1768, his brother John 1687-1772, and all known descendants of Hugh Kirkpatrick II 1734-1810: A Revolutionary War Veteran” published in 2003.
Ironically, this genealogical book indexes 4,088 names but mine is not in it! I don’t hold this against him. It just serves to prove that no matter how good the research is, there is more work to do. I hope to carry the torch and add to his work.
I am currently working on publishing my own book about Hugh Kirkpatrick which, in addition to the genealogical side of things, will delve into the geopolitical history of Maryland, Pennsylvania, and the Ohio Frontier. All places that he has set foot in. When I’m not working, engaged with the family, you’ll probably find me sitting quietly on my porch smoking a cigar with my dogs thinking about these things
