I have come to a crossroads in life. I’m forty now, and as any man should be at forty, I am well established in life. I have a healthy family, a couple dogs, a home on a quiet plot of rural Indiana acreage. My son has just graduated high school and is pursuing a career in medicine. If you’re anything like me, then you have spent so much of your life pushing forward, that you have hardly had time to look back at where you have been and where you have come from.
And that’s what I plan to do now. Now begins a systematic study of the history of my family. That’s not my only interest in this quest, however. I have been a student of American Revolutionary history for most of my life. The challenge before me is most difficult.
It is one thing to simply regurgitate facts; it is a whole other thing to be innovative in writing and put forth a compelling narrative. Most of this site will be genealogical in nature. Telling the tale of which Kirkpatrick begat which Kirkpatrick. And just like the biblical genealogies seeking to prove the Davidic line, it will at times be mind numbingly boring to all but a few. But the other part, I hope, will tell the story of Revolutionary America and bring these Kirkpatrick’s and the spirit of Revolution back to life.
